USO-Metro and Northern Virginia Therapeutic Riding Program (NVTRP) have been working together to create "Horses for Heroes." This program provides equine therapy to wounded warriors who desperately need cognitive and emotional services. When riding a horse, it allows movement to transfer to the rider, providing a combination of sensory, motor, and neurological stimulation. This translates to stronger muscles, better balance and coordination, improved gait, and greater self-confidence and self-esteem for the wounded warriors.
