    United Through Reading

This program is designed to encourage reading in military families while boosting the morale of the entire family and enhancing the feeling of connectedness between deployed service members and their loved ones. In partnership with United Through Reading, a California-based nonprofit, the USO piloted the United Through Reading ® Military Program in 2005 with select USO centers.

The program allows wounded warriors at Walter Reed Army Medical Center and the National Naval Medical Center to be videotaped while reading a children's book. The DVD, a copy of the book, instructions, as well as information on the program, are mailed to the child and family back home. All recording equipment, books and packing and shipping materials are supplied by the USO.

To schedule a videotaped reading, please contact Jackie Green, Hospital Services Specialist.
