Holiday Programs & Services
USO-Metro is excited to offer special holiday programs to bring military families together and to say thank you to our troops and their loved ones during the holiday season.
We have made a few changes to the qualifications of our holiday programs this year. Turkeys for Troops and Project USO Elf are open to E5 and below and you must be referred by a senior enlisted advisor. These new guidelines are in response to concerns expressed by our senior enlisted leaders. They would like us to focus on reaching military families in need during this time of year. Service members seeking assistance for the holidays will not be punished for asking for help.
If you are not aware of who your senior military advisor is, please send an email to programs@usometro.org with your name, unit name and the installation that your unit is on and we will forward along your request. If your senior enlisted advisor is unaware of the program, please have them contact Dawn Fincham at dawn@usometro.org she will provide them with program information and the necessary materials.
Turkeys for Troops
This Thanksgiving, USO-Metro is honored to say thank you to local military families by providing Thanksgiving Food Baskets! This program is open to active duty service members, E5 and below. Please note, grocery store gift cards may also be distributed in lieu of baskets. Deadline to register is midnight November 4, 2012. Project USO Elf
USO-Metro salutes military children and families this holiday season! Register your children to be sponsored by area companies, organizations and families. Children will receive age appropriate gifts personally selected by their sponsor. Registration is open to active duty service members, E5 and below. Deadline to register is midnight November 4, 2012. I'd like to sponsor a military child through Project USO Elf!
Area companies, organizations and families can register to "sponsor" a local military child this holiday season through USO-Metro's Project·USO Elf. Donors are provided with the military child's first name, age, gender and their wish list. Details based on individual family. No personal information is disclosed about the adopted military family. If you are registering on behalf of your company/organization please be sure to complete all requested business information. Deadline to register is November 30, 2012 or until all 1200 children are taken care of. Donors registering after November 9, 2012 are not guaranteed to receive children’s wish lists before the Thanksgiving holiday. If you would like to register please click here.
Health Net Celebration of Children
USO-Metro partners with Health Net to host a special holiday celebration with games, crafts, prizes, gifts, food and a visit from special guests, including Santa! Children will be bused from installations around the area to the event location and dropped off mid-afternoon.· This event is open to children (ages 4-11 years) of active duty military. Holiday Hotel
Registration for Holiday Hotel opens November 13th, 2012. To thank our service men and women stationed in the Washington-Baltimore metropolitan area, USO-Metro partners with local hotels to provide free hotel stays for visiting family members during the holiday season.· Apply for free hotel stay for any 3 consecutive nights max during the duration of the program.· Hotel placements are based on a first come, first serve basis to those with family members coming in from out of town. Applicant families are placed closest to the duty station the service member is assigned to, within the Metropolitan Washington area.· One room per applicant.· This program is open to service members E5 and below.· Deadline to register is December 7, 2012.

Trees for Our Heroes
For the fourth year in a row, BAE Systems and USO-Metro will host Trees for Our Heroes event in appreciation of those who serve. Each participant will be able to cut down a Christmas Tree or to chose a pre-cut tree and participate in holiday craft making and receive snacks, and beverages.
This program is for active duty service members and/or their dependent family members E5 and below. If you are an E6 you must be referred by your Senior Enlisted Advisor to USO-Metro. We will confirm this with your SEA.
This year we are fortunate to be hosting at two locations:
Fredericksburg, VA on Saturday, December 1st from 10:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m.
Gaithersburg, MD on Sunday December 2nd from 10:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m.
