On July 4th Potomac River Running (PRR) will honor local military members and their families by choosing the USO of Metropolitan Washington-Baltimore as its charity of choice during its annual Firecracker 5K for the Troops race at Reston Town Center. USO-Metro is a 501c3 nonprofit organization that provides support services and programs to military members and their families living in the Northern Virginia, Washington, D.C. and Maryland region.
Net proceeds from the event's corporate sponsors will be donated to USO-Metro to help fund critical programs and services provided by the nonprofit for the nearly 300,000 military members living in the Washington-Baltimore region and the 150,000 who travel through local airports each year.
The Independence Day race will also include a "Battle of the Branches" competition in which active duty military members represent their branch of service by racing in the event.
