Airport Lounges

Volunteers assist military travelers with information and directions. Refreshments are available at each location. Permanent volunteers are utilized at each location. Volunteers are required to become familiar with all airport services. Volunteers greet guests, check military IDs, work the snack bar and assist guests with airport information, flight information, ground transportation, photocopying and faxing, as well as help guests with a myriad of travel dilemmas. Ideal for someone who could make a weekly commitment of four to five hours. You must be 18 years of age or older to volunteer in this capacity.

USO Centers

USO-Metro has five USO centers located in military communities at Joint Base Myer-Henderson Hall, Fort Belvoir, Dahlgren, Indian Head and Fort Meade. The outreach centers offer a wide variety of programs geared toward active duty military and their families. These include play groups, holiday programs, spouse groups, job skills workshops, movie nights, bingo, game nights, food assistance and free meals. Permanent volunteers who can commit to two shifts (3-5 hours each) are utilized at each location. Volunteers will have an opportunity to assist with center programming but are also expected to greet guests, check military IDs, replenish snacks and coffee, and assist guests with general information.

Special Events

Throughout the year, USO-Metro hosts a number of special events that either raise awareness of the USO or generate needed funds to support organizational programs. Episodic volunteers are needed in a myriad of ways such as staffing informational booths, attending CFC/United Way fairs, picking up trash, serving refreshments, directing parking, etc. Events are a great way to volunteer your time to USO-Metro with a limited commitment and are available around the tri-state area.

Programs & Services Events

USO-Metro's programs and services division provides a myriad of human service programs for all service members, with a focus on young enlisted families, single service members, military children and military spouses. Throughout the year hundreds of special events are planned and executed with the intent of elevating morale, building a sense of community and helping to ease the burdens of a transient military lifestyle. Episodic volunteers are needed throughout the year to help with these events. Volunteer duties typically include set-up, signing-in guests, helping with crafts & various activities, and clean-up.

Other Ways

If you have a special talent that you are willing to share, we can find a place for you! We are constantly in need of volunteers that can take photographs, serve as exercise instructors, entertain children, present a workshop on a special topic or act as a translator. Sharing your personal talent can be an ongoing opportunity or a one time commitment.

All of the above volunteer opportunites are individual-based. If you are part of a group who is interested in volunteering please contact Sheila Hutchinson at sheila@usometro.org for a list of other ways that your group can support the USO.

You can also support service members and their families by raising funds or donating products.

Special thanks to our dedicated volunteers for supporting our troops through the USO-Metro.
